Controlled and/or Free

I have been making architectural drawings on tracing paper for over 30 years. As these drawings turn into homes and businesses, their purpose has been fulfilled, to build a structure. They are now just a shadow. I could recycle them, lose any trace of them and also lose a part of myself.  I have intentionally kept my art and my architecture separate in order to keep one area from controlling the other. City Tools

Everything becomes a potential tool in the city. We all are surrounded by, stand on and take for granted tools which I use to draw. They are timeless and timely.  It is a floating world available for the taking. The process is almost magical when the image appears through the paper. I use the standard pencil, brush and paint that all artists have at their disposal, but my major tools are my eyes and the surfaces around me. Surfacing, level 2

Surfacing is about collecting textures from my travels and many local places. I layer them over non-objective watercolors. The process is similar to the art of cloisonne or stained glass without the planning. Colors are separated from each other by black partitions or walls. The textures seem to float above the loose, but intense color washes. The relationships are accidental and spontaneous.
